About Me
About Me
Hallo, apa kabar? That is how we greet people in Indonesian language. Featuring the writer and owner of this blog; Karina (aka Nana) Kim, an Indonesian who currently resides in Gwangju, South Korea. I have been living here for the past 16 years. I love traveling with family, learning new languages, and relaxing at home watching true-crime documentaries. I am a fan of Harry Potter (Gryffindor here!!), and I am a mother of two little boys, one of them is a special needs child. They are my purpose in life.
Story Behind This Blog
The blog was reborn for the sixth (!) time, but this version is the third I did in WordPress. Back in 2007, I started blogging in Yahoo 360, which now no longer exists. I moved to Multiply as the site closed down. I had quite a hard time at Multiply, honestly the site was a bit difficult to customize. The site closed down as well, and I moved to WordPress. It’s a bit difficult at first to navigate the site, but thank God I am getting used to it as time goes by.
My blog in the past had always been about Korea, called Korea Jjang, meaning “Korea’s Top”. The blog covers mainly about Korean culture and customs. However, with the rising amount of workload that I receive, I could no longer update the site as I used to. These days there are hundreds of sites about Korea and I decided to merge the content of the blog with my own personal travel experience, and thus the name “Korea Jjang” is no longer appropriate.
On November 17, 2013, as I chatted with my sister back home, she told me she will travel alone to Germany and called herself as a “nekad traveler”. My sister and I used to travel alone far and wide, so I think the title fits me, and I am sure there are many more people out there who are gutsier than me. So on that night, the blog Nekad Traveler was born. I was so committed that time that I bought the domain as soon as I decided I will use the name. However, again, due to the amount of work and routine I do, there’s nothing much about “travel” to write, that I decided to go back to basic and as of March 2015 make it simple: Footprints Journey. But at that time I was pregnant with my first son, I put the blog as part of a diary of my pregnancy. It was my plan, too bad it didn’t work out as after my delivery, I was super busy, and the blog was practically almost in the state of abandonment. I had to put the blog to private and just get on with my everyday life.
However, as I am leaving my work (finally!) to focus on my son (one of them is autistic), I want to document my journey here, hopefully it will be helpful, as I will also add information about rising a special needs child in Korea. So, I think the new blog name, Korea, Apa Kabar? fits. Since many of my old blog posts are too outdated, I update them again and “re-publish” them. If you see any wrong info/ broken link, please feel free to let me know.
And Finally…
I mostly use photos from the stock photos, so if they are free to use, they won’t have any source written. But for my travel articles, I am the one taking those, so if you’d like to use my photos in any format, I’d really appreciate it if you could put a link/ credit to them. I love to receive comments and ideas from you all. I am also more motivated to post if you give me comment on how to improve my posts and the site. I am not a writer and English is not my first language. Please drop a note and I will definitely put lots of consideration into it for the next post. Hope we can share the knowledge together. Thank you and enjoy browsing around! 😀
